The 12 Sexiest Science Fiction Movie Stars
Regardless of skin color, age, or weight, every woman has the
capacity to be sexy, even if she doesn’t fit on that scale of beauty
American society has created: you know, the scale of one to ten with Kim Kardashian
on the top and pregnant Kim Kardashian on the bottom.
But sexy
sometimes needs to fit within a context, as it does in the case of
science fiction.
If you watch a romance movie or a comedy, maybe casting a sexy female
lead involves noticing how voluptuous her lips are, or how ample her
bosom appears in her shirt. If you watch a fantasy movie, maybe casting
a sexy female lead involves noticing how ethereal she appears, or how
regal her bosom seems in her tunic. But science fiction, with its
tendency to embrace action, the unknown dangers of space, and dystopian
ideas of society, requires a little more. Here the female lead needs to
be beautiful but also strong, with an attitude that allows the audience
to believe she can be a bad ass when she needs to be. This strength is
part of the sex appeal that an actress in science fiction must bring to
the role, and the women on this list have plenty of strength.
This list will focus only on movies, so some very sexy actresses, like Gina Torres, Summer Glau, and Jessica Alba
did not make the list because their contributions to science fiction
have been primarily on television. Also, I am looking at actresses that
have made important career contributions to the genre, so while Jane Fonda, Daryl Hannah, and Linda Hamilton
have had some very sexy Science Fiction roles, they don’t make the list
because they aren’t really actors associated with the form. Each
actress comes with her own science fiction resume. Here are The 12
Sexiest Women Of Science Fiction Movies.
12. Olivia Wilde
When Olivia Wilde was
born in 1984, God must have been mad at women. That is the only
explanation I can come up with why women every where are now forced to
compare themselves to her. When Wilde started making science fiction
films, geeks everywhere rejoiced. I don’t buy her as being very
dangerous, certainly not capable of the levels of violence other actors
on this list have portrayed, but she exudes sexiness in every scene. She
doesn’t have as big of a science fiction resume as others, but look at
her! Just not too long because you might burn out your retinas.
Science fiction resume: Tron Legacy (2010), Cowboys and Aliens (2011), In Time (2011), The Lazarus Effect (2015).
11. Scarlett Johansson
Of the women on this list, Scarlett
Johansson has brought a level of sexiness and credibility to many
movies, inside and outside of the science fiction genre. She is so cute,
but then when she speaks her voice is half an octave deeper than you
expect, making it believable that she could also be quite dangerous when
she needs to be. This is the kind of voice that, if recorded and played
back on your smartphone, would make you fall in love with it.
Science fiction resume: Eight legged Freaks (2002), The
Island (2005), Iron Man 2 (2010), The Avengers (2012), Under the Skin
(2013), Lucy (2014), The Avengers Age of Ultron (2015).
10. Jennifer Lawrence
Jennifer Lawrence
is a little young for me personally, but I can certainly see why many
men find her incredibly sexy. She has a great smile with sexy lips,
seems very funny and personable, and has a knockout body. It’s easy to
see why both Peeta and Gale would fall for her Katniss Everdeen. As
evidenced by her film roles, I also believe that she could be tough. She
plays a reluctant warrior well, with the aura of wanting to be friends,
but the attitude of being willing to fight for what she believes in.
She is one of the most critically acclaimed actors in the world at this
point, and a long career probably still lies in front of her. She
embodies what a sexy science fiction actress should be.
Science fiction resume: The Hunger Games (2012), Catching
Fire (2013), MockingJay 1 and 2 (2014 and 2015), X-Men First Class
(2011), X-men Days of Future Past (2014).
9. Natalie Portman
Natalie Portman
is a very attractive young lady. She has a weird, yet incredibly sexy
smile, is super intelligent, and has a really defined physique. She was
great in the Star Wars movies, delivering terrible lines with zero signs
of discomfort. The performances of Portman, Ewan McGregor, and Samuel Jackson
were probably the best thing about the prequels. Portman was just a
child when she filmed Phantom Menace, and brought a weight to the role
that, to be polite, far surpassed the other child who acted in that
movie. She did enter into a franchise so devoid of women that any
female would have been drooled over, but Portman earned her sexiness.
When she climbs to the top of the sacrificial column in Attack of the
Clones while the Jedi are deciding how to escape, I totally bought that
she could, and was about to, kick some serious alien ass.
Science fiction resume: Phantom Menace (1999), Attack of the Clones (2002), Revenge of the Sith (2005), Mars Attacks! (1996) Thor (2011), Thor 2 (2013).
8. Zoe Saldana
How did Zoe Saldana manage to get main roles in three major science fiction franchises (Star Trek, Avatar, and Guardians of the Galaxy)? By being as sexy as hell. Saldana is effortlessly radiant and dangerous, slipping from funny one liners about Kevin Bacon
to unloading a pulse rifle into the gut of an alien commando with ease.
She is such an astounding actress that one never stops believing in her
characters, and all the make up/CG effects she has had to put up with
have completely failed to obfuscate her amazing beauty. Also, her role
as the new Uhura in Star Trek adds one additional layer of sexiness.
Science fiction resume: Star Trek (2009), Star Trek Into Darkness (2013), Avatar (2009), Guardians of the Galaxy (2014).
7. Milla Jovovich
Milla Jovovich
is a fine actor, not as good as some of her peers maybe, but able to
carry a movie if she has a good foundation to work from. What Jovovich
really has going is a serious science fiction pedigree and a panache for
excessive violence that has become synonymous with her. She has honed
herself into an action star: a lean fighting machine always staying sexy
and seductive. In The Fifth Element, her breakthrough role, she was all
of those things and held her own, acting-wise, alongside some pretty
impressive peers. Jovovich is beautiful, and while her movies aren’t
going to win Oscars any time soon, they are fun. Sometimes that is all
you ask for in the fifth sequel to a zombie apocalypse movie based on a
video game.
Science fiction resume: The Fifth Element (1997), Resident
Evil (2002), Resident Evil Apocolypse (2004), Ultraviolet (2006), The
Fourth Kind (2009), Resident Evil Extinction (2007), Resident Evil
Afterlife (2010), Resident Evil Retribution (2012).
6. Kate Mara
It took me awhile to warm up to Kate Mara,
but her red hair is very sexy, and there is something really sultry
about her. She can act, she has a sexy voice, and she looks good doing
her job. I don’t know if the science fiction genre is going to be a
mainstay for Kate, but I sure don’t mind watching her expand her
horizons.
Science fiction resume: Zoom (2006), Transcendence (2014), Iron Man 2 (2010), Fantastic Four (2015), The Martian (2015).
5. Sigourney Weaver
Sigourney Weaver
is probably my favorite science fiction actress ever, and any time she
shows up in a film I know I’ve spent my money well. But no one should
forget, distracted by her amazing acting, how sexy Sigourney Weaver can
be. In Alien, when she strips to her bra and panties, every
man watching that film began to forget about the terror he had just been
witnessing, making the appearance of the alien again especially
unwelcome. In Galaxy Quest she played the “sexy” actress from a
TV show, and by God was she sexy. Weaver is always tough, always
believable, and is such an amazing actress she can elevate crap like
Alien 4 to a level of watchability. Weaver is one actress who doesn’t
need a giant exo-skeletal forklift to kick butt while being sexy, but,
of course, it doesn’t hurt to have one.
Science fiction resume: Alien (1979), Aliens (1986), Alien 3
(1992), Alien 4 (1997), Ghostbusters (1984), Ghostbusters 2 (1989),
Wall-E (2008), Chappie (2015), Avatar (2009), Cabin in the Woods (2012),
Galaxy Quest (1999).
4. Michelle Rodriguez
Michelle Rodriguez
comes across as a real bad ass. To top off her ripped arms and lean
body is her super sexy smile, which can either be flirty or
disconcerting: is she coming on to you or giving you warning that she’s
about to kick you in the neck? I know she could beat me up, and she
kind of scares me, which makes her very, very sexy. Rodriguez is also a
really good actress. She does what she needs to do for the role, even if
it means (which it usually does) her character won’t survive until the
credits. Rodriguez is just so fun to watch. Science fiction is a very
good fit for her.
Science fiction resume: Resident Evil (2002), The Breed
(2006), Battle Los Angeles (2011), Resident Evil: Retribution (2012),
Avatar (2009).
3. Halle Berry
Not only is Halle Berry
one of the most critically acclaimed actors of our generation, she has
one of the best bodies in Hollywood. When Berry does science fiction,
she brings a legitimacy to the film, as well as a lot of sex appeal.
She can be incredibly strong and able to inflict real damage against
those who oppose her, yet also display a tangible, intimate persona that
seems so easy to relate to. The fact that she is so gorgeous never
diminishes the characters she brings to life, but just serves to force
men everywhere to never take their eyes off of her. She can even take
terrible material like her “Do you know what happens to a toad…” line
from X-men and make it bearable.
Science Fiction resume: Cloud Atlas (2012), Robots (2005),
X-men (2000), X-men 2 (2003), X-men 3 (2006), X-men Days of Future Past
(2014).
2. Charlize Theron
One of the most beautiful women in the world, Theron exudes
talent and sex appeal. She is an Oscar-winning actress and really
doesn’t need to do science fiction movies to bolster her career, but she
does a lot of them anyway because she is awesome. Theron is the kind of
woman who sees a giant spaceship falling on her and thinks, “I bet I
can outrun that” instead of thinking “I should just take two steps to
the left so it won’t hit me.” That takes courage, real guts, which
Theron has plenty of. She can be just as violent as her male
counterparts, and seems just as comfortable choking some menace to death
as she does making bedroom eyes at a lucky starship captain. Theron is
wonderful, and hopefully never takes science fiction off her docket.
Science fiction resume: The Astronaut’s Wife (1999), Aeon
Flux (2005), Hancock (2008), Astro Boy (2009), Prometheus (2012), Mad
Max Fury Road (2015)
1. Carrie Fisher
I love Carrie Fisher,
and I’m sure millions of other geeks love her too, but she hasn’t,
let’s say, aged very well. But remember how sexy she was in the original
Star Wars movie? Her lipstick was so shiny, and it was
surprising the first time that little princess whipped out her blaster
and killed a Stormtrooper. She already had us when she so boldly stood
up to Grand Moff Tarkin and Darth Vader, and every little boy who
identified with Luke was, on a very tangible level, jealous that she
might end up with Han, just as every little boy who identified with Han
was jealous she might end up with Luke. By the time Return of the Jedi
came out in theaters, we were already so enamored of Carrie Fisher’s
Princess Leia that when Jabba the Hutt dressed her in that metal bikini,
an entire generation of boys had their first experience with puberty.
This iconic moment of sexiness will forever ensure that Carrie Fisher be
remembered as the sexiest science fiction actress ever. For her
contribution to dozens and dozens of beautiful girls storming Comic-Con
every year in bikinis, on behalf of nerds and geeks everywhere, I say
thank you.
Science fiction resume: Star Wars (1977), The Empire Strikes
Back (1980), Return of the Jedi (1983), The Force Awakens (2015), The
Time Guardian (1987).
